Israel in Syria – Giancarlo Elia Valori

Over the last two years alone, in complete silence, the Jewish State has already carried out over 200 airstrikes against Iranian targets in Syria.

North American unconfirmed sources also speak about Israeli support for Islamic “rebels” fighting against Bashar el Assad and his allies.

They are supposedly 12 groups of so-called para-jihadist “rebels” operating in southern Syria, who oppose both the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and radical ISIS jihadist militants.

Obviously the Israeli intelligence services closely monitor – with systems active 24 hours a day – the three bridges connecting the Golan Heights with Israel, which are constantly used by the Israeli armed forces to support both the Golan populations and the military operating permanently in those areas.

Israel has named the “humanitarian support” to the region, including the aforementioned anti-Assad rebels, “Operation Good Neighbour”, but the real Israeli spearhead is the air missions in the Syrian skies, which have again much increased in recent times. Israel and Saudi Arabia – Giancarlo Elia Valori

In Syria, on February 24 last, Iraq carried out its first bombing against Isis in the region of Abu Kemal, but the tactical and intelligence support to the Iraqi forces was been given by Russia and Iran, not by the United States which, however, also tacitly allowed the operations.

This also means that Putin has lost his patience and fears the new fragmentation of power and factionalism in the United States, considering Donald Trump’s Presidency and the intelligence agencies now deployed against the new President. Hence Putin goes on with his operations in Syria with the support of Iran and not with the US support, as had previously been planned by the Russian intelligence services.

It is also assumed that the United States does not accept the primary role of the Turkish forces in the conquest of Raqqa, the capital of the so-called “Caliphate”. However, after the conquest of the town of Al Bab in Northern Syria, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, announced that the Turkish armed forces would continue actions towards Raqqa with the support of France, Great Britain, and Germany – not to mention the United States. Giancarlo Elia Valori’s deep-felt tribute to his friend Shimon Peres

A great Statesman, a peace Giant and a genuine Father of the State of Israel
(*) by Giancarlo Elia Valori

I have been deeply upset by the news of Shimon Peres’ death. I was aware of his severe health conditions following the stroke of September 13 last. I  had already been particularly worried for the heart attack of last January from which, however, he had recovered. Indeed, at the time, he replied to my affectionate message wishing him a prompt recovery by writing: “My dearest friend, thank you from the bottom of my improved heart for your kind and sincere words. I am fully regaining my health and I will always maintain my hope! Because it is said: He who has health, has hope; and he who has hope has everything”. Unfortunately that hope faded away last night due to kidney  complications and today at 1.15 a.m. (Italian time) his heart has stopped beating. He has died at the age of 93 and now I feel I have lost a long-time sincere and fraternal friend, one of my dearest ones. Russia’s double standard vis-à-vis Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori

Since July 25 last, Assad’s Syrian Arab Army has hammered the Israeli front of the Golan Heights with its artillery, often logistically supported by Russia.

The goal is obviously to prompt a response by the Jewish State and make it wage a war directly against Syria.

A pointless suicide for Israel, a return to the old and useless lines of the Cold War in the Middle East.

This would also mean starting to put pressure on the Southern front, precisely towards the Golan Heights, both by the Hezbollah, now retreated towards the border between the Lebanon, Syria and Israel, and by the Iranian Armed Forces and their “volunteers”. The direction for everybody would be towards the Israeli Northern border, while Russia would clearly support this joint operation against Israel.

For Russia the war in Syria has been the great catalyst for its new hegemonic alliance in the Middle East, not a new position towards the Jewish State, still seen as a US “prong” in the region. Continue reading “Russia’s double standard vis-à-vis Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori”

The current relations between Russia and Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori

The new relationship for the exchange of intelligence data, which had been established between Russia and Israel, is currently in danger.

The most clear sign of this bilateral crisis can be seen in the mild reaction to the Israeli protests concerning the Russian sales or transfers to the Hezbollah of military equipment (often advanced one).

The polemic was also rekindled in the last telephone conversation between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Putin, last Saturday, July 23.

During the phone call between the two leaders another very sensitive issue was discussed, namely the case of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which managed to enter and penetrate the Israeli airspace in the area of the Golan Heights directly from Syria.

The UAV had to take pictures of some Israeli equipment and special operations in the region.

As many as three F-16-launched Israeli missiles failed to hit the UAV, which returned to Syria unscathed. Continue reading “The current relations between Russia and Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori”

Russia and Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori

During the meeting held on June 7, 2016, the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu decided to start military cooperation between the two countries.

It is a historic decision which breaks the traditional link existing between the Israeli and the US Forces.

A change of strategic perspective by both countries, which significantly modifies the old, traditional postures inherited from the Cold War.

It marks the end of the Russian univocal support to the Arab countries, inherited from the XX CPSU Congress of 1956, to strengthen the “national middle classes” of the Islamic world. It also marks the end of the unique relationship between Israel and the United States, designed to oppose the  USSR allies in the Middle East.

On the one hand, the relationship with the United States strengthened Israel at technological level but, on he other hand, it forced it into a strategic horizon typical of a small regional power, which is currently no longer reasonable. Continue reading “Russia and Israel – Giancarlo Elia Valori”

Israel and the Russian Federation today – Giancarlo Elia Valori

There are many signs which make us think of a new strategic relationship between Russia and Israel in the Middle East.

In general terms, we can now assume that the Jewish State is already considering and assessing the US disengagement  from the Middle East system – hence Israel is trying to define a policy to “replace” them, thus establishing connections with the Russian Federation.

Obviously the bad personal relations between President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu carried a remarkable weight in this respect, but we are witnessing a real redefinition of all the regional geopolitical equilibria.

Also the US and EU slapdash attitude on the JCPOA, namely the Treaty on the Iranian civilian-military nuclear power, rightly criticized by Prime Minister Netanyahu and the whole Israeli establishment, had a significant influence in this regard.

Both Russia, which has already “won” its war in Syria and Israel, which has drawn all the geopolitical consequences of the “Arab springs” and the ambiguous initial US support for the anti-Assad Syrians “rebels”, are redesigning – almost alone – the new Greater Middle East map.
